Lead Mechanical Design Engineer

Felsomat USA, Inc. located in Schaumburg, Illinois is a steadily growing subsidiary of Felsomat GmbH, with headquarters in Germany and part of the Reishauer Group. We manufacture CNC turning machines, twin spindle hobbing machines as well as laser welding machines used in the manufacture of high volume precision gears. We also specialize in the automation of high production automation systems used in automotive engine Electrified powertrain and transmission plants.

We are a leading supplier to the Worlds’ premier automotive companies and parts suppliers, such as Ford, Chrysler, GM, ZF, Fiat, VW, Mercedes Benz, Audi, BMW, GKN and Getrag.

Our continued growth presents an immediate opening based at our Schaumburg Illinois facility for a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer.


Aim:

Works independently to design automation machines, cells and other Felsomat USA Inc. equipment while interfacing with customers and other departments.

Mentor and train others under the supervision of the manager or senior engineer.


Functions and responsibilities:

Design Automation Machines:  The Lead Mechanical Design Engineer independently designs large automation systems, machines and cells, ancillary components such as tooling and fixtures, and retool commissions as per Felsomat USA Inc. standards.  The position is also capable of R&D Designs related to Automation.  Understanding and integrating of Robotics is a must.

Communicates with customers:  This position needs to interface with the customer to ensure their machine design is within spec and is what the customer needs.

Creates Handover Documents and Build SAP Groups:  The Lead Design Engineer communicates with other departments and creates handover documents and bill of materials.  This position also coaches and mentor the staff engineer, the mechanical detailer or a student.

SAP Build Groups and:  The Lead Mechanical Design Engineer creates and maintains SAP Build Groups.

Project Schedules and Budgets:  This position maintains and creates Project Schedules, deliverable timing/timelines and manages budgets.

Review scopes of work:  The Lead Design Mechanical Engineer reviews the scopes of work/quotes and other sales/customer information for the project kick-off.

Create Company Documents and Change Requests:  The Lead Design Mechanical Engineer creates company documents such as risk assessments and purchase requisitions and processes engineering change requests.


Requirements:

Formal Qualification:  BS Degree in Engineering Discipline (alternate: Journeyman Apprentice)

Job Experience (years):  5-10 years’ experience in Mechanical Engineering

Job Experience (contents):  3D CAD training certificates (on Request), Microsoft Office Products, working knowledge of Business Software, SAP, People soft, Fanuc Robot Guide Training Certificate (preferred) or alternate robot training and simulation.

Thinking environment:  Ability to work in a detailed high-quality fashion (in the responsible areas) and meet given mechanical engineering deadlines.

Thinking challenge: Can design Felsomat USA Inc. automated machines and solutions within the company standards and guidelines. Needs to be skilled in robot automation and robot functionality.

Accountability:

Can independently design parts, assemblies, automation and machines following the Felsomat USA Inc. standards and guidelines.

  • Detailing is of high quality and accuracy
  • BOM creation is complete
  • Design quality is complete and accurate
  • Accurately and completely designs automation, machines and retools
